Salman Khan News: Salman Khan is not known as the bad boy of Bollywood for nothing. Not one to bow to pressure, the actor – celebrated as much for his rebellious nature as for his bare-chested appearances in Hindi films – was seen attending the International Indian Film Academy Awards in Colombo, last month, despite calls for a boycott by Bollywood headliners to protest the island government’s treatment of its Tamil minority during the long civil war.
Now, in line with his non-conformist nature, Mr. Khan has returned to Sri Lanka to shoot for his forthcoming film, “Ready,” also starring “Ghajini” actress, Asin Thottumkal, according to the Associated Press.
Filming in Sri Lanka isn’t generating the same kind of opposition as the awards ceremony did but it still doesn’t sit well with some of the same Tamil Nadu film industry groups who took against the IIFA.
“We are not against Bollywood films being shot in Sri Lanka, but we are worried that it is sending a message of support to the government by doing so,” P.K. Maayan, founder of South Indian Short Film Makers Association in Chennai, told India Real Time.
Mr. Khan is said to have told reporters in Colombo Wednesday that he is not worried about shooting in the country. “It’s not a big deal. I have not faced any barriers so far. And I don’t think I will have any problems in screening the movie in South India,” Mr. Khan said.
Mr. Maayan disagrees. He says films featuring Bollywood stars like Mr. Khan and Hrithik Roshan, who attended the IIFA awards, are still not showing in theaters in Tamil Nadu.
