Box Office Report: Crook down but Do Dooni Chaar up

Box Office Report: Crook down but Do Dooni Chaar up: Emraan Hashmi  starrer Crook: It’s Good To Be Bad has disappointed the audience as well as its makers with its poor weekend collections. Films from the Bhatt camp generally manage a good run at the box office, but this couldn’t happen with Crook which opened to a below average response of 35-40%.

The other release of the week, the small-budget film with big heart, Do Dooni Chaar starring yesteryears’ hit couple Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh fared well at the BO in spite of its poor first day.

The response to the movie is good and with positive word of mouth publicity it successfully managed around Rs 2 crore nett over the weekend. A steady business is expected from the film in its first week.

Coming to Anjaana Anjaani and Robot (Hindi), Anjaana Anjaani is received well by the NRI crowd and did the business of around $1.55 million from its first weekend. Robot (Hindi) is not that remarkable at the overseas market. It managed a meager $375,000 approx. However, Endhiran (Tamil) is a huge success at all the overseas markets and did around $3.25 million business.

The BO king Dabangg added another Rs 6 crore approx in its fourth week, taking its four week total close to Rs 140 crore.

Do Dooni Chaar Review

Do Dooni Chaar Review: Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh return to big screen as a pair in director Habib Faisal’s film Do Dooni Chaar.
Keeping up with Joneses isn’t easy for the Duggals. Mr. Duggal (Rishi Kapoor) is a maths teacher in a school and earns a salary that merely provides for hand to mouth existence for his middle-class family. Mrs. Duggal (Neetu Singh) is a quintessential housewife with aspirations for a better social status. Their two kids, a teenage daughter and a school-going son, crave for all the things Gen X can’t do without.

It’s a sight to see the Duggals trundling down the road on a run-down scooter. But then Mr. Duggal, despite his paltry income that falls short of household expenditures, dares to dream of owning a car. “Duggal ke ghar ke aage car hogi hogi,” he slams his fist emphatically. Easier said than done, coz in spite of the tight-fisted Mrs. Duggal’s savings and cost cutting, owning a car seems an elusive dream unless Mr. Duggal compromises with some of his principles.
Simple, humorous, and totally relatable, Do Dooni Chaar is a small film with a big heart. The bourgeois mindset with all its dreams and aspirations is nicely laid out in the tale of the Duggals as they share their happiness, anxieties, fantasies and frustrations in pursuit of a chimera.

Rishi Kapoor and wife Neetu Singh carry the film on their dependable shoulders. Rishi is natural in every scene while Neetu is a sheer delight in her comeback role after a long time. Last, she was seen making a fleeting appearance at the end of Love Aaj Kal. Aditi Vasudev and Archit Krishna as the Duggal siblings shine in respective roles.
Director Habib Faizal makes an impressive debut in a film that takes its viewers into the household of a typical middle-class family in Delhi. It’s the kind of cinema that reminds one of Dibakar Banerjee’s Khosla Ka Ghosla. It’s funny, ironic, emotive and captivating.

Definitely worth a watch.

Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh's 'Do Dooni Chaar' premiere night

Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh's 'Do Dooni Chaar' premiere night: A rejuvenated Rishi Kapoor  and the ever-so-charming Neetu Singh, stole the limelight at the premiere of their film Do Dooni Chaar at PVR, Juhu, Wednesday, October 6.

Walking the red carpet, Neetu beamed as Rishi endearingly held on to her. The couple proudly posed for photographs with son Ranbir Kapoor who discretely remained on the sidelines.

And why shouldn't he have? Rishi and Neetu were once Bollywood's most successful screen couple and Do Dooni Chaar pairs them on screen for the first time since their marriage in 1980!
Neetu, 52, wore an ivory ensemble: a sparkly, slim fitting, self patterned, long sleeves kurta with front button detail; matching churidar, and self patterned dupatta.

She accessorized with studded sandals, dazzling pearl drop earrings, and a chunky emerald ring on her right hand ring finger.

Her shoulder length hair was superbly styled away from her face. She wore nude lip gloss, thick eyeliner and pink eye shadow.

Rishi Kapoor, 58, looked a charmer in pink plaid shirt and gray suit sans a tie.

Ranbir was dressed in casuals - white Tee, blue distressed jeans, blue suede finish jacket and tan suede shoes.

Neetu and Rishi were last seen together in Duniya Meri Jeb Mein (1979).

Do Dooni Chaar will be their 11th film together, if Neetu's blink-and-you-will-miss-it appearance in Kal Aaj Aur Kal is ignored.

In the film, the two play a middle class couple - Mr and Mrs Duggal - who are struggling to make ends meet in the fast, new 'India Shining'.

The film is funny, real and heart warming, say a lot of Bollywood stars who have seen previews.

Those who came out to support the couple's new film included Anil Kapoor, Kunal Kohli, Abhinav Kashyap, Swanand Kirkire, Anushka Sharma and Manjari Phadnis.

The film is due in theaters on October 8.
